9th Edition

Edited by Ed Durrant, G8GLM/DD5LP

The RSGB Amateur Radio Operating Manual was first published in 1979 and is a yardstick of amateur radio at its best. This completely-updated 9th Edition provides everything to do with operating for a radio amateur, from how to start in the hobby, setting up your station, the new Ofcom licence changes, the latest in space, advances in contesting, DXing and QSLing, to mention just a few.

Split into three sections, the RSGB Amateur Radio Operating Manual starts with general operating sections before moving to the Manual's chapters concentrating on the how-to of various modes and activities and then the last section, with all the DXCC entities, Prefix/Zone data and maps, even a section with some useful words and expressions in foreign languages.

There is so much to look at in the RSGB Amateur Radio Operating Manual. There are special sections on the popular portable operating award schemes POTA and SOTA etc. Even within that one area of 'operating' we have LF, HF, VHF, UHF, microwaves, Morse code (CW), voice (SSB, FM, AM and - these days - digital voice), data modes (not just FT8 but also RTTY, WSPR, PSK, JT65 and the numerous other data modes with new ones appearing on a regular basis), DXing, contesting, 'rag-chewing', portable or mobile operating, using repeaters, nets, taking part in emergency and community support communications. Not many radio amateurs can tick more than a few of the above boxes as most will tend to specialise in one area or another 'is it time to try something new'?

Amateur radio has always changed with the times to keep up with both technology and the increasing number of facets in this great hobby of ours. The RSGB Amateur Radio Operating Manual has always aimed at getting the most out of your amateur radio operating by encouraging you to try new areas that you might not have otherwise considered: the RSGB Amateur Radio Operating Manual 9th edition is no different.
